The screenplay was expertly written by Shashank Khaitan, Sumit Roy, and Ish*ta Moitra. The movie, a joint effort between Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios, stars a talented ensemble cast, including Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, who play the central couple and opposite personalities.

Plot Of The Movie

The Randhawas and the Chatterjee are the two families whose lives are entwined throughout the film. Dhanlakshmi Randhawa and her son Tijori are the heads of the Punjabi business family known as the Randhawas.

They exercise power over Rocky and Gayatri, their grown grandkids, as well as Tijori’s wife, Punam, in their patriarchal family. On the other hand, the Chatterjees are an educated Bengali family, with Rani Chatterjee being a well-known television news anchor and her parents, Anjali and Chandon, each possessing their special skills.

Rocky and Rani meet when they decide to reunite their estranged grandparents, Kanwal Lund, the husband of Dhanlakshmi, and Jamini, the grandmother of Rani. Rocky and Rani start to feel attracted to one another as they cooperate to make their grandparents feel better.

Rocky and Rani’s friendship and the conflicting worldviews of their families are at the heart of the film. Because of his mother’s poison, Tijori has developed patriarchal traits and tries to control Rocky’s (Rani’s) affection.

But as the plot develops, the characters begin to question these expectations and learn to unlearn their conditioned behavior. Rocky starts to let go of his old habits after being affected by Rani and her family’s modern outlook.

He moves in with Rani’s family, adopts their way of life, and begins to support gender equality and other progressive ideals. As opposed to Tijori and his mother, Rani uses her agency to support the women in the traditional Randhawa household in finding their voice and challenging the systemic patriarchy they are being subjected to.

Together, Rocky, Punam, and Gayatri denounce patriarchal behaviors and make threats to leave the home. When Dharmendra, Rocky’s grandfather and a key player accountable for the crisis, gives Tijori a meaningful message in his final moments, the scenario takes a significant shift.

Tijori is moved to examine and depart from his conditioned behavior as a result of this emotional realization. His process of “unlearning” will now commence. Tijori begs his wife and kids not to leave him as the film goes on because he is beginning to see the repercussions of his earlier deeds.

The fact that he did this shows that he is aware of his prior errors and is trying to improve. Finally, Rani chooses to accept Tijori’s family’s apologies and agrees to participate in Rocky’s lavish wedding.
