Synopsis

love the accurate representation of how people on co*ke are f*cking annoying
for real tho this was pretty unpleasant to watch at times. if I wasn’t already a fan of Félix Lefebvre, I probably would have enjoyed it less.
I think I laughed out loud a couple of times, and there were moments between the two main boys that showed great chemistry. however, everyone just seemed so over the top angry, angsty, and just... bad.
as a longtime fan of Skins UK, I’m not against plots where young folks get into trouble they shouldn’t, but this was a bit extreme. drugs, violence (domestic and otherwise), a fight with a prostitute, attempted SA… all in a 50 minute span. it’s kind of a bummer film
OH and don’t let the poster fool you. this is not a charming little gay movie at all

Three recent art-house movies aim to reconnect audiences to a cultural heritage that vivified human relations in opposition to contemporary alienation (essential dependence vs. authoritarian isolation).
1) The platonic friendship at the center of A Night in the Fields provides the opportunity for Grélardon to catalogue various forms of intimacy and physical love during a fateful night of working-class recreation. His visuals connect the gay-youth films of fellow French filmmakers Andre Techine, Gael Morel, and Francois Ozon with the American youth-cult films of Francis Ford Coppola and Walter Hill. The resonances culminate in an iconic image of male affection—sharing a seat on a bike ride—familiar from those French auteurs in Wild Reeds, Full Speed, and Summer of 85 The image originated as mother-son love in Pasolini’s Mama Roma, a process Grélardon tracks narratively from family tenderness to friendly compassion.

This film captures a strange aspect of queer love where, when it’s true, becomes this murky quagmire of romantic, platonic and fraternal. Felix and Jeremy are charming and earnest and the film is only bogged down by its reliance on violence to drive the narrative forward.

O enredo explora como o ambiente em que eles vivem reflete nessas personalidades... Dylan vive num ambiente pesado em conflito com o irmão traficante, enquanto Anthony é quem cuida da casa e de sua mãe doente. Enquanto o primeiro força sua masculinidade e suas "experiências" macho alfa, o outro tem um contato mais afetuoso com sua mãe, e um amor platônico por uma garota.

You can't convince me this isn't a gay film, even though two males never have sex together ... yet. But it starts with one taunting the other playfully over his swimming briefs and ends with the two boys bounding naked through the waves at the ocean beach. In the middle both show an inability or unwillingness to attempt penetrative sex with a woman, and it's not owing to morals. They are creatures of coercion and impulse, and their relationships with everyone but each other are perverse in emotionally painful, socially determined, gruelingly distressing patterns.
